The Department for Business , Energy and Industrial Strategy are heavily involved and it is proposed that the installation will be completed by 2020.This will give the government an up to date assessment of our energy requirements . At the present time there is some concern whether there will be sufficient capacity to meet the requirements of energy this winter.

MOST CUSTOMERS ARE UNAWARE THAT SMART METERS AT PRESENT ARE VOLUNTARY.

A number of energy companies have installed first generation smart meters for their domestic customers during the foundation stage, using their own communications systems to provide smart services. Smart meters installed during the foundation stage have enabled consumers to realise the benefits of smart metering early, and have also given energy suppliers valuable experience and the opportunity to build their own capacity, ahead of the main installation stage.

HOWEVER THE FIRST ITERATION OF METERS KNOWN AS "SMETS1"- CANNOT BE USED WHEN SWITCHING SUPPLIERS.

THIS COULD INVOLVE MILLIONS OF CUSTOMERS

Consumers with smart meters installed during the foundation stage are still able to switch suppliers without loss of functionality. If the new supplier is not able to operate the meter in "smart" mode, the meter will continue to record energy consumption accurately and can be used in "traditional" mode, with meter readings taken manually. The meter will not normally need to be replaced.

For the main installations stage,new national infrastructure has been built which will enable communications between second generation smart meters and all energy suppliers, network operators and other authorised service users (e.g. price comparison sites). Second generation smart meters installed in the main installation stage will be fully compatable between energy providers, therefore allowing all consumers to retain smart services when they switch suppliers without needing to make any changes to the existing meter.

The Government's objective is for smart meters installed in the foundation stage to be moved into the national communications infrastructure and made fully compatible. A project is currently underway to scope and assess options through which this can be achieved. In the interim period, a number of industry parties are exploring approaches to enable more consumers to retain their smart services upon switching.

HEADS YOU LOSE CONCERNS

Public Health England has advised that evidence SUGGESTS that exposure to the radio waves produced by Smart Meters do not pose a risk to health. Presumably these radio waves will not pose a danger to infants whose brains are developing and the elderly . What happens in blocks of flats where there may be many smart meters?.

"Customers have been left in Switching Limbo-thats having the greatest impact," said Peter Earl,head of Energy at the price comparison website comparethemarket.com .  He said the average savings from switching is around £200 ayear, against a supposed average saving £11 saving using a smart meter

Most of the smart meters installed today rely on phone technology and technical standards are maintained for smart metering equipment to send meter readings to your supplier. Many of the components are being manufactured overseas in sealed units but we are informed that the actual assembly "generally" takes place in the UK. There are vigerous standards 

Obviously if you have already had a Smart Meter installed you have to accept it and hopefully gain from its installation.  Those who have not converted to this "new technology can hold fire"

Remember also that having a smart meter at present

is purely voluntary at present and one has to ask why energy companies are being penalised if they do not fit "their" quota of meters.

How much longer are we going to be subjected to a flawed referendum that took place last year, and will badly effect the vast majority of our citizens for years to come!!
As with any tug of war, it is important that both sides have an equal chance and also that there is more than one try. As above , in the picture the ground was very slippery and the result of one pull far from decisive when one takes into account the narrow majority in favour and the list of misleading information on both sides fed to the electorate.
Some of our government ministers still believe that a deal can be struck with our EU partners which will be to our benefit and we can then make trade concessions to many countries who are just waiting in anticipation to do deals with us.
While all this postering is happening both large and small businessses are in a state of limbo and are unable to make plans for the future.
Our citizens financial position  is very precarious with personal debt increasing and there is a strong fear that an increase in interest rates will inevitably bring hardship to many.
LETS US REMAIN IN EUROPE WHERE WE BELONG AND PUT AN END TO ALL THIS UNCERTAINTY , BUT OUR REPRESENTATIVES MUST TAKE THEIR ROLES SERIOUSLY AND HELP TO REFORM THE EU TO THE BENEFIT OF ALL AND STOP THE GRAVY TRAIN GETTING OUT OF HAND.
